What's Your Name

I see that according to the National Calendar, today is "National Name Yourself Day."  Oh my gosh!  What would you name yourself?  Furthermore....how does this become a national holiday?!  It's kind of crazy how much thought goes into a name.  When we're naming our own kids we think of things like, does it sound good with our last name?  Should we use a family name?  Does it rhyme with anything that our kid could be made fun of?  My parents chose my name based on some childhood friends that my mom knew...three sisters named Heidi, Honey and Holly.  Could you imagine if she named me HONEY???  Oh the jokes!

When I was in elementary school I wasn't particularly fond of my name.  I didn't know anyone else with that name so it seemed strange.  Besides that....do you know the meaning of the name Holly?  A bush.  Holly means bush.  Couldn't they have come up with something more inspirational?  I tried to make it more fun by spelling my name different ways on my school papers or adding a middle name that wasn't my own.  As I got into middle school/ high school I started liking the fact that I was the only person I knew named Holly.  Then one day in a college class, I found myself in there with three Holly Davis' (Davis being my maiden name).  Are you kidding me?  THREE!  I went from not knowing anyone named Holly to a class where not only did I share the same first name but also my last name!  We were identified by our middle initial, Holly K, Holly S and Holly R.

I love names though.  I love nicknames too.  I will answer to just about anything.  I had a boss who called me Casey for a year.  Wasn't my name - it was the name of his assistant before me - but I answered to it.  It became quite comical!  In a few of my sessions I've had kiddos call me Molly or Polly.  I even had one little guy (whom I have photographed for three or four years) call me Hobby Lobby!  Haha!!  But....if you could choose to be called something other than your given name, what would it be and why?

I've thought about it and I think I would want to be called Fynn.  I just love that name.  When I think of a girl/woman being named Fynn I think of her being confident and spunky; independent, trendy and a rockstar of fashion (I'm pretty sure tee shirts and jeans don't fall under fashionable).  She's someone that everybody likes and loves to be around because of her contagious personality.   Oh if only.  I couldn't actually change my name to that but for a day, maybe.  What would your name be?
