Spring Into Fashion

Spring is coming (hoping sooner rather than later) and some people are trying to plan for their family spring pictures.  I have a few color choices and tips to help answer the big question....WHAT DO WE WEAR?

When choosing your color pallet - what is it you are looking for?  Are you looking to suit the season?  Are you looking to coordinate with the colors of your living room (or wherever you will be hanging your 20x24 family portrait)?  Are you thinking casual or dressy?  Whatever your decision may be, I would suggest:

Some of my favorite color combos for spring
(outfit combos courtesy of @katelphoto)
 1) Do NOT go for matchy-matchy.  Do not put all the girls in one color shirt and all the boys in another color.  And I most certainly hope we're past the day of everyone wearing the same shirt with their jeans or khakis.  Mix it up a bit.  2) Limit your patterns.  Do not have three people in plaid shirts and two people in florals.  That's too much!  It  sends everyone who is looking at your pictures, into sensory overload.  Aim for solids but feel free to throw a pattern in there somewhere  3) I love accessories!  Colored shoes, hair bows, hats, ties, suspenders, scarves, jewelry.  Accessories do two important things...gives your portraits some personality and helps tie everyone's outfits together.   4) And speaking of personality....choose outfits that somewhat reflect you and your children's personalities.  I have three kiddos (two girls, one boy).  My girls' personalities could not be more different.  One is very sassy and loves the glam...the other doesn't.  One year my oldest wore a hat for our pictures while my youngest wore a bow in her hair and a tutu skirt.  Don't try to put your girls in matching outfits if their personalities are different.  Maybe even ask them to pick out one accessory they would like to wear.  It may even get them excited for the session if they are a part of the process.

Now that I have hopefully given you some answers to some often asked questions, you can go ahead and start preparing for your upcoming sessions.  If you haven't scheduled your sessions yet....
